Robert C. “Bob” Messick, 91 of Knightstown passed away peacefully on Thursday April 21, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Henry and Hettie Jane (Denny) Messick on December 23, 1924 in Rural Hall, NC. Bob married the love of his life Juanita (Gorman) Messick on September 22, 1951 at the Raysville Friends Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church, Raintree Wood Carvers, Knightstown American Legion Post #152, and Knightstown VFW. He retired from General Motors in 1986. Bob enjoyed gardening, fishing and took great pride in his yard and landscaping.
Bob will be greatly missed by his 2 daughters, Vicki (Jessica) Messick , Judith (Sam) Rector; 3 grandchildren, Lori (Jason)Wortham, Julie(Jon) Sharp, Sam Rector; 8 great-grandchildren, Amy Winchester, Logan Wortham, Kevin (Heather) Cournoyer, Dane, Mason and Gabe Rector, Amelia and Kara Sharp, a great-great grandson Wyatt Cournoyer, and his sister Sallie (Messick) Wadman.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife Juanita, Bob was preceded in death by 7 sisters; Beulah Mundy, Gladys Flynn, Lilian Messick, Marquerite Messick, Myrtle Sims, Sarah Lloyd and Emma Messick, 2 brothers; Bill and Charley Messick, a great-granddaughter Victoria Lawson.
Services for Bob will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at 1PM at the Knightstown United Methodist Church. Friends may visit from 11AM until time of service. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Rev. Curt Hunt presiding. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to The trustees’ maintenance account of the Knightstown Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
