Obituary for Sandra Yvonne Copeland (Stewart)
Sandra Yvonne Copeland (Stewart), 84, of Vevay, IN, formerly of Knightstown, passed away on the morning of Thursday, September 03, 2020 at Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison, IN.
She was the youngest of eight children, born on December 3, 1935 in Fontanet, Indiana (Vigo County) to Herman and Ethel (Kennedy) Stewart.
She went to grade school in Fontanet and graduated high school from Frankfort Pilgrim College in Frankfort, Indiana, in 1953. Before marrying, she worked at Downtown Cadillac and Chevrolet in Terre Haute and for Indiana Insurance Company in Indianapolis. On September 18, 1954, she married Harry Gene Lingenfelter and bore him six children: Rodney Dean, Jerrold Dale, Jack Lee, Lawrence Daniel (deceased), Charles Edward and Gayle V. (Lingenfelter) Roswell.
After the children were grown, Sandra worked for Beneficial Finance in Indianapolis and was transferred to Knightstown as a manager for that company, until it relocated. She then worked for Mayhill Publications and for Hancock County Hospital before working as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Insurance in New Castle. She retired from Farm Bureau in 1995.
After the death of Gene Lingenfelter in August 1976, Sandra married William E. Maxwell in March of 1978. He died on November 1, 1992. She then married her surviving spouse, Virgil Copeland, Jr. on January 12, 1997.
Of these marriages she has several stepchildren, as listed: Donald Eugene Lingenfelter, (deceased); Patty Jo Lingenfelter, (deceased); Harry David Lingenfelter Wagoner of Martinsville, Indiana; Danny Maxwell of Indianapolis; Carolyn Caughman of Shelbyville; and Marilyn McCorkle of California; Allen Copeland, (deceased); and Elizabeth Marin of California.
Sandra’s deceased brothers and sisters are Annis Fernsel, Lela Childs, Lawrence Stewart, Ernan Stewart, Grace Cundiff, Rose Lucille Hendricks, and Dale Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown with David Oakes officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
