Obituary for Samuel C. Gray

Samuel C. Gray, 83, of Carthage went to be with the Lord on the morning of Monday, April 4, 2022.

He was born on August 27, 1938 in Owingsville, KY, a son of the late Cecil and Josephine (Traylor) Gray.

Sam graduated from Carthage High School in 1956 then served his country for seven years in the United States Army as a Combat Medic. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Lukens, on July 13, 1957. Sam worked for Container Corporation and later Smurfit Stone in Carthage and retired after 36 years. He collected John Deere Tractors, Nascar memorabilia and other collectable toys. Sam enjoyed woodworking and could build anything. He found joy in building special pieces and giving them away.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Gray; children, Debbie (husband: Marty) Wells, Sandra (husband: Dennis) Muncy, Brian (wife: Nora) Gray and daughter-in-law, Michelle Gray; grandchildren, Danielle (husband: Jim) Carmichael, Miki (husband: Justin) Cole, Maribeth (husband: David) Wooldridge, Brinton (wife: Darci) Gray, Brandon (wife: Danyelle) Gray, Dustin (wife: Hannah) Gray, Rachael Gray, Sydney Gray, Tyler (wife: Kristen) Cox, Cory (wife: Kristen) Cox, Joe Gray, Brett (wife: Janis) Muncy, JB (wife: Tracey) Muncy, Thomas (Summer) Muncy and 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Millie (husband: Donald) Cooper and numerous extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brad Gray; two brothers, Paul Gray and Sid Gray.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 – 7 pm, Friday, April 8, 2022 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
