Obituary for Mary Ann Sitler

Mary Ann Sitler, 89, of Knightstown passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, December 21, 2020 at Golden Living Center in Greenfield.

She was born on October 5, 1931 in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Thomas Reed and Eva Marie (Williams) Clevenger.

Mary Ann graduated with honors from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. She continued her education at Butler University and Indiana University and graduated with honors and a degree in Medical Records. Mary Ann worked as the medical records administrator at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for many years. In June of 1957, she married Bill Sitler and they settled in Knightstown. Mary Ann started her own business that she operated for 20 years. It was a medical claims service where she helped people with their health insurance claims.

Mary Ann was an active member in many community civic organizations including Tri Kappa, Business Professional Women, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scout Troop leader, Cub Scout pack leader, as well as her church, Bethel Presbyterian, where she taught Sunday school and was involved with the Bethel Presbyterian Women’s Association. She was recognized for her distinguished and dedicated service as a member of the board of directors of Comprehensive Mental Health Services Inc. in Henry County. Mary Ann was also a member of the Daughters of the Revolution and served the D.A.R. as a Regent of the Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter. She also was responsible for the chapter’s essay contest for many years and took pride in that. She loved her family and being outdoors. Mary Ann and Bill would often take trips camping and hiking to enjoy nature and bird watch.

Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Martha Ann (Andrew) Windisch of New Jersey, Thomas Scott Sitler of Indianapolis and Richard (Marsha) Sitler of Knightstown; three grandchildren, Rachel Sitler, Stephen Sitler, Nathan Sitler and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Sitler.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 8, 2020 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
