Marvin D. Scott, 89, of Greenfield, passed away early on the morning of Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at home.
He was born on October 7, 1932 in Knightstown, Indiana, a son of the late Charles Nobel Scott and Ruby (LeMay) Scott.
Marvin was a 1951 graduate of Mays High School. He then joined the US Navy and served during the Korean War and was awarded many medals for his service. Marvin married Carolyn Cheshire and together they farmed in Rush County until her death in 1999. Marvin was a member of Center Christian Church in Mays for several years and a member of the American Legion Post #152 and V.F.W. Post #2693. Marvin enjoyed playing cards and visiting the casino. He and his second wife, Valene, enjoyed traveling across the country to see family in California, Florida, and Arkansas, and visiting military museums. Marvin loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Valene (Everitt) Scott; two daughters, Robin (Harold) Dowell of Crawfordsville and Belinda Sue Scott of Lewisville; a granddaughter, Tonya (Kevin) Kamradt; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jayden; a brother, Chuck Scott of Greenfield; four step-children, Valerie (Gary) Durack of Urbana, IL, Brad (Trisha) Dannelley of Ingalls, Lori Dannelley (Wayne VanDyne) of Marshall, AR, and Joel (Michelle) Dannelley of Anderson, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn (Cheshire) Scott on June 2, 1999; siblings, Wilman Scott, Lela Kiplinger, Beulah Oldham, and Rosalyn Bryant, and the parents who raised him, James and Eva Rhoades.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Center Christian Church in Mays with Pastor Darryl Denney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the US Navy, the American Legion, and VFW.
Friends may call from 1:00 pm until the time of service Saturday at the church.
