Obituary for Loretta Virginia Plank (Bower)

Loretta Virginia Plank, 105, of Knightstown, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Hancock Regional Hospital.

She was born on April 14, 1914 in Seymour, Indiana, a daughter of the late George and Lula Bower.

At age three, following her mother’s early death, Loretta came to Knightstown to live at the Soldiers and Sailors home where she lived until age 18. She married Bernie Sutton and lived in the Indianapolis area until Bernie’s passing. She then married Elmer Plank from the Spiceland area and they lived on Harrison Street in Knightstown for over 50 years. For the past nine years, she resided with her granddaughter and caretaker, Lisa (Dan) Jackson. She attended Carthage Community Church. She enjoyed babysitting and being a home maker. She liked dancing when she was young and tending to her garden. In the last few years she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and watching old movies.

Those left to cherish Loretta’s memory include two daughters, Laticia Foist Gray of New Castle and Glenda (Noe) Nieves of Indianapolis along many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Bernie Sutton and Elmer Plank; a daughter, Bernice Harp; two granddaughters, Vickie Reed and Sandra Harp.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 6, 2019 at Heritage Funeral Care with Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will follow in New Crown Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Visitation will be from 4 - 8 pm Sunday, January 5, 2019 at Heritage Funeral Care.
