Obituary for Katherine Sue Rummel

Katherine Sue Rummel, 72, of Knightstown, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Heritage House Rehabilitation in New Castle.

She was born on March 27, 1946 in New Castle, IN, a daughter of the late Earnest and Jessie
(Fadely) Pitts.

Kathie was raised in her lifelong home in Knightstown and graduated from Knightstown High School in 1964. She continued her education at Ball State University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree studying Art, History and Education. She loved art and photography and worked in the Ball State photo lab. Kathy also worked as a bartender which directed her to meeting her husband, John Paul Rummel. They were married on July 1, 1977

Kathie loved art and in retirement invested a majority of her time giving lessons at various nursing homes, Senior living apartments, churches and libraries. She was an excellent pie baker, loved to cook, working in dietary at several area nursing homes prior to retiring. Kathy was thrilled to be involved in her community serving on various committees including class reunions. She belonged to several organizations including Historic Knightstown, Beautify Knightstown, NRA, and AARP. She loved her family, her church, Knightstown Wesleyan, of which she was a life-long member, and her animals, especially her little dog, Ladybug.

Those left to cherish her memory include a brother, Carl (wife: Rhonda) Pitts; cousins, Audrea Thatcher, Martha Thatcher, Mary Thatcher; sisters-in-law, Nancy (husband: Paul) Boehm and Pat Loshen; brothers-in-law, Fred (wife: Nancy) Rummel and Ron Nubert; nephews, Marty (wife: Stephanie) Main and Mitchell Main; godchildren, Kimberly Kilgore, Chris Ford, Nick Ford, Ben Ford and numerous lifelong friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, John Paul Rummel; sisters, Marcia Woods and Norma Kay Nubert; brothers, William Lee Pitts and Ernest Hubert Pitts and a special niece, Sara Gondocs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Henry County Humane Society.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Heritage Funeral Care
with Pastor C.J. Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 - 8 pm on Wednesday, January 23, at the funeral home.
