Obituary for James Ervin "Jim" Griffin

James Ervin “Jim” Griffin, 76, of Carthage, passed away on the morning of Thursday, July 16, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born on May 8, 1944 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of Martha Betty (Horn) White.

Jim was a graduate of Knightstown High School. He joined the US Navy serving on the USS Independence during the Cuban Crisis. Jim attended Ball State University for two years before starting work at General Motors, Delco Remy, in Anderson, where he retired following 37 years of employment. Jim married the love of his life, Betty Conley on October 24, 1964, and together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Jim was an avid member of the Knightstown American Legion Post #152. Jim enjoyed working on his property, spending time with his dogs and cats, fishing, playing golf, and online poker. His greatest loves were his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his wife, Betty Griffin; three daughters, Angela (Glenn) Davis of Selma, Terri Griffin of Carthage, and Jamie (Brian) Chapman of Noblesville; grandchildren, Josh (Ashley) Davis, Heather Davis, Sarah (Tim) Loflin, Alisha (David) Hochstedler, Daniel (Leslie) Griffin, KC (Cara) Griffin, Jacob Davis, Kaleb Davis, Lillian Chapman, Piper Chapman, and Miles Chapman; great-grandchildren, Kyler and Karter Davis, Breonna and Dylon Allen, Makyna and Adelyn Hochstedler, Aurora, Forest, and Kaysyn Griffin and Rosie Davis; a son-in-law, Tommy Davis; two sisters, Tina (Maurice) Temples and Susan (Chris) Haywood; a sister-in-law, Marsha Griffin, a brother-in-law, Rick Conley, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Betty White, and father, who adopted and raised him, Charles Griffin; a daughter, Tammy Davis; two great-grandsons, Braden Westmoreland and Darien Davis; a sister, Judy (David) Leisure and two brothers, Jerry and Chuck Griffin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown with Pastor Charles Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in Carthage Town Cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:00 pm until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
