Obituary for Andy Pelham

Howard Andrew “Andy” Pelham of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021 at the age of 92.

Andy was born on July 1, 1929, in Jackson, Mississippi. He was adopted by Howard Bolton Pelham and Eleanor Youngs Pelham at birth.

They moved to Indianapolis when he was five years old. Andy graduated from Shortridge High School in 1947 and Hanover College in 1951. He served two years in the US Army counterintelligence division receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He married the love of his life, Audrey Ruth Thomas in 1959. He spent much of his working career at Indiana National Bank retiring as an assistant vice president and trust officer in 1993. After retiring, he served as an executive in residence at Butler University School of Business teaching the students real-life business principles. Andy was an active participant in his beloved church – Second Presbyterian – serving as both an elder and deacon. He served as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship for 15 years and continued to lead bible studies and young adult Sunday school classes throughout his retirement. Andy led his final bible study just days before his passing. His wife, Audrey, frequently states that she sees God’s handiwork woven through Andy’s life and theirs as a married couple. Andy never met a stranger and was well-loved by all his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey; his daughters, Cathy (Troy) Burns and Kristin (Mark) Haase; grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Carson, Jenna (Kevin) Hack, Chris Burns, Kari Burns, Ben Haase, Lucas Haase and great-grandchildren, Katie and Ryan Carson.
