Gary Allen McClurg, 83, of Greenfield and formerly of Carthage, passed away on Christmas morning, Sunday, December 25, 2022.
He was born on March 21, 1939 in Carthage, IN, a son of the late James Markes and Mary Ellen (Winkler) McClurg.
It was in Carthage that Gary met his future wife, Charlotte Ann Mercer, whom he married on December 22, 1962, and shared a lifetime of love and devotion. Gary served his country in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division stationed in Korea. He graduated from Ball State University and earned a degree in business. Gary worked a few years for Western Electric before he started his career in photography that primarily focused on school pictures. He was an active member of the Future of Carthage, Carthage Alumni Association and the Knightstown American Legion.
For many years, Gary and Charlotte spent winters in Orange Beach, Alabama, enjoying the sunshine and sharing fun with their “Snowbird Friends.” As a couple, Gary and Charlotte were blessed to enjoy many cruises and trips in the U.S.A. and around the world. Wherever they went they were loved and appreciated.
Those left to cherish his memory include several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Ann McClurg; brother, Randy McClurg and infant brother, James McClurg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown with Pastor Jim McClurg officiating. Burial will follow at Carthage Town Cemetery with military honors.
