Obituary for Donald L. Meade

Donald L. Meade, 83 of Knightstown, went to be with the Lord on January 27th, 2022 surrounded by family. He was the son of Lee and Martha (Ball) Meade who preceded him in death. Also, preceding him were his brothers, Robert D. Meade of Bellingham, Washington, Malcolm Meade of Dayton, Ohio and his nephew, Norman Meade of Straughn.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara J. (Kiplinger) Meade; two daughters, Donna Tauber of Spiceland (husband: Daniel) and Rhonda Brown of Knightstown (husband: Greg); four grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Miranda Jo, Rachel Nicole and Benjamin Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Stephen, Eliana, Joshua and Elijah.

Don retired from Delco-Remy in Anderson after working there for over 35 years as well as serving as Fire Chief and Captain among his duties. He also served on the Kennard Fire Department for 12 years, was a member of the Kennard Lions Club, Scottish Rite and Murat Temple of Indianapolis, Lewisville Masonic Lodge since 1960 and Spiceland Friends Meeting. He was a current member of the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and served on the Honor Guard. Don was a 1957 Graduate of Straughn High School and served in the United States Air Force.

He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, gardening, loved a good sale, finding antiques and refinishing furniture. Don and Barbara owned and operated Country Memories Floral and Gift Shop in Spiceland for many years and also enjoyed over 60 years of traveling to their cabin in the Colorado mountains and exploring the west.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown with David Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 -7 pm, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. It is recommended to wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
